Another New Quilt!

Here's a preview of Mimi's Garden. It will be the last quilt pattern specifically made for Bees Knees. I love this fabric, but I am ready to move on! That's the only downside to designing fabric. I really miss working with other people's designs or even feedsacks! Oh well, small thing to complain about....

Things have evened out for my mom enough that we are thinking again about going to Market. So I am not giving up hope! I really hate to miss the fun. I'll let you know.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Back Home and Back to Work!!

We survived our week with Cameron! You forget how much work it is taking care of a 5 year old, but he is so good! His Mom might not agree with that, but he is good for us anyway.

So now we're home and I'll be hitting it hard getting stuff ready to send to Market. Seems odd to think I probably won't be there, but right now it's just not in the cards.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Taking Care of Cameron

We're taking care of our grandson this week while our kids go on a cruise. Our daughter Kim is a Director for Pampered Chef and she earns a trip every year. This year it's off to the Carribbean so we're in charge of Cameron.

For those of you that don't know, Cameron was adopted by Kim & Jack when he was about 22 months old. He was being raised by his great grandparents who knew they were just too old to keep him forever. Kim and Jack had been through nightmares with infertility problems. Failed invitros, surgeries, years of sadness and longing for that child that wasn't to be. So God in all His mercy brought Cameron to them. What a joy and treasure he is for all of us!

Cameron is 5 now and a typical little boy. I had never been around a little boy before, so it's been wonderful getting to be close to him and do my part as a grandparent. Which, by the way, is the absolute best! He and his Poppie are off to the zoo today with his preschool class. I wonder who'll be more exhausted when they get home???

So I get the day to sew! I must say it doesn't sound bad at all. Hope you're having a great day, too!

Update on Mom

Things seem to be settling down for my mom. She's getting her baths and her meds on schedule now. I'm so grateful for that! I even had some time to sew yesterday. Working on a new Bees Knees quilt for Market.

Speaking of Market, I'm afraid I might not be able to go this time. I'm just not comfortable being 2000 miles away from my mom right now. Sometimes we just have to follow our hearts.

Thanks to all of you who wrote with encouragement and advice! I appreciate your concern.

I'll post a pic of the new quilt when it's far enough along for you to tell what it looks like. We are going to be taking care of our grandson Cameron for a week while his parents take a cruise. Don't know how much sewing I'll be getting done with him!

Hope you all are having a wonderful week and getting lots accomplished!

Assisted Living for My Mom

For those of you who don't already know, my mom is 96. She has lived in a retirement facility for about 4 years. I have been able to keep her on independent living because I do her pills on a weekly basis.

A couple of weeks ago I found out that she is no longer taking a shower. Only "spit baths" as she calls them. I asked her how she was washing her hair (she wears wigs all the time) and she replied that she wasn't. Her hair didn't need it! So needless to say the alarms started going off all around me!

I decided that it was time for Assisted Living. They will now give her her meds and help with bathing a couple times a week. She doesn't have to give up her lovely apartment and they are willing to adjust to her schedule. It sounds great, doesn't it? Well, yesterday they didn't give her her morning pills or her bath. So I will give them a couple of weeks to adjust.

My question for you. Does anyone have any advice for dealing with assisted living arrangements? If so, please email me and share at hollyhockquilts@cox.net. I know I've said it before, but dealing with aging parents is a whole new and difficult situation. Wish I had all the answers.
